Anna Wintour in color, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in vintage, steampunk-reminiscent Chanel outfits, Kirsten Dunst in bold digital print – has the world turned upside down? Are the polar caps melting? Should we worry about our safety?
Naah. It’s just the Met Gala and its craziness all over again.
And what could we want more? Every fashion diva out there is a Met Gala fan. The Oscars are pretty boring, once you get used to them. The Grammys – classy, yet surprisingly safe. We won’t even mention Kid’s Choice Awards. So it’s the Met Gala that’s keeping the flame burning, still.
This year, we take a peek at the looks that made us say wow! and got us clicking desperately to find out who made that dress and how we can recreate that glorious makeup.
The diva is back! All the way retro, Beyoncé’s see-through ensemble is daring, yet classic.
This is Givenchy Couture at its best. Flowy, yet tongue-in-cheek, the dress is sexy, but ultimately really grown up. A statement in itself.
The look comes together with the right accessories. Trust Philip Treacy to find the headpiece that makes sense. This black veil Beyoncé wore gives the look more direction and screams evening. The same goes for the oversized chandelier earrings, created by Lorraine Schwartz. These are heavy, obvious and asking for trouble, but B. can pull them off effortlessly.
Dramatic, just like her ensemble, this beauty look aims to bring the eyes into focus as subtly as possible. But they’re behind a veil! you say. True, but that’s just because they’re too powerful on their own. The veil creates a cage-like effect which makes the eyes pop even more. A golden eyeshadow is just enough to create that mysterious effect.
As for the lips, B. went full burgundy. The color is a mix of two lipsticks – MAC Cyber and Hang Up (thanks, Huffington Post).
Beyoncé’s sleek hairdo has that retro vibe she was going for and acts as a perfect supporting actor for her face. Oh, and about the face — isn’t her skin amazing?

Start with a whitening routine. This will get your face bright enough for this 20s-inspired beauty look to work. A skin whitening soap is an obvious choice, because you can use it all over and it’s easy to incorporate in your daily routine – put your regular bar on hold and make the whitening soap your new shower buddy.
You need a solid base for this one, so don’t miss a step – primer, foundation, subtle contouring, they’re all vital for this look. Eyes should be golden and shimmery, eyelashes and eyebrows natural, but tamed, and lips luscious and burgundy, with a bit of shine.
Beaming Olivia Munn
Oh, you natural beauty, you. Olivia Munn’s sunny look has got us dreaming of beaches and the sea, and her yellow dress isn’t the only one to blame.
This Diane von Furstenberg gown is just right. Tight and fitted in all the right places, yet drapey and red-carpet-ready, this maxi is all about Olivia. The pop of color at the waist is there for a reason — your eyes go exactly where they’re supposed to, don’t they?
This is Olivia Munn at her best. Give her a pop of color — orange lipstick — and a bit of mascara and this girl can rule the world. We love the focus on her beautiful freckled skin and her dark locks, especially how unpretentious it all is. But, with Olivia’s natural beauty, it doesn’t take much to turn her into a Met Gala diva.

Keep it simple. Focus on hair and skin. A good blow-dry, sustained by a solid coconut oil hair therapy, to keep your hair healthy and shiny, will get you where you need to be.
And while you’re at it, apply some late-night coconut oil on your face, too. Don’t be afraid, you’ll look great in the morning and you’ll finally be able to say “i woke up like this” and not laugh uncontrollably.
Black mascara, generously applied, on the lashes. Color for those eyebrows and lots of structure. A clean, moisturized face. Orange (or whatever works for you, but go bold) lips. You’re done.
Playful Lupita Nyong’o
Leave it to Lupita to give us a look that makes us gasp.
For the 2014 Met Gala, the Oscar-winner wore a bold Prada flapper dress complete with luscious green feathers and embellishments. Heels, a satin mini-clutch (both by Prada) and Cartier jewelry complete the look, but the star of the outfit is obviously the headband, a risky, yet powerful choice we can’t get our eyes off.
Young, you are. Beautiful, you are. Lupita, you probably have it all. Add the celebrity makeup artists and you have more than we could ever dream of. Don’t mind us. We’re just in love with your fun and flirty look and we’re here to deconstruct the hell out of it.
The vibrant, purple eye is Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Miss Sweetheart D. The lips, a cool combination of Le Lipstique Lip Colouring Stick in Sheer Chocolate and Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Bordeaux. Working his magic on Lupita was Nick Barose, her awesome makeup artist for this event.

Lupita’s look is all about “young”. And, while we can’t fake that, we’ve got a few tips up our sleeves. Exercise, exfoliate, moisturize. And smile. Nothing beats that (except for chemical peels, haha).
Make sure your eyelashes are as defined as they can and your smoky eye is bold. Your lips should be glossy, natural and sexy.
And those were our favorite looks at the Met Gala 2014. Runners up, below.
Emma Stone, in Thakoon & Suki Waterhouse, in Burberry
